The Science Behind AR Coatings 

Wednesday, 12/6  3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. PST   (ABO-T) 
This course will discuss the science of light theory and the visual system, examine the reflective properties of ophthalmic lenses, provide a brief overview of how AR coatings have evolved over the years, and then explore the design and manufacturing process, together with the many benefits they provide your patients. We’ll conclude our discussion with a few tips for recommending AR coated lenses; as we assert in all our courses, every patient will benefit from an AR coated lens.

During this course, we’ll present a series of techniques for both prescribing and recommending a photochromic lens to your patients, by helping them understand their many benefits, based on how they report they ”use” their eyes.

Andrew Bruce

Courses presented by Andrew Bruce, LDO, ABOM, NCLE-AC 

Andrew Bruce is a licensed Washington State Dispensing Optician and contact lens fitting specialist with a Masters in Ophthalmic Optics and over 25 years of experience in the industry. He is a nationally recognized speaker (ABO/NCLE advanced level), industry consultant, and an internationally published technical writer and CE author. Andrew serves as an industry expert on the ANSI Z80 Accredited Standards Committee for Ophthalmic Optics, and has served on the Washington State Dispensing Optician Examination Committee and the Board of Directors for the Contact Lens Society of America, in addition to their Education Committee. He is an Adjunct Instructor at Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon, for the Optician Assistant Program he personally developed. And most recently, he was named a 2023 Contact Lens Institute Visionary. In 2017, he established his company, ASB Opticianry Education Services, with a mission to provide consulting and learning experiences that cultivate independent growth, development, and success. His training programs have helped many gain their ABO/NCLE certification, and Washington State Dispensing Optician License.
